Both the Precision Matthews PM-25MV and the PM-727M are good machines for the price and, most importantly, can be used to fabricate parts needed for precise work. The major differences amount to the motors and the drives. These differences were weighed along with other features to determine their relative ranking.

Precision no longer inventories the former stand (STAND-STEEL-PM-25MV) and refused to sell me a PM-30MV stand (exact same dimensions listed on PM website). New design will not be available this year and new design will not work for my shop requirements.

Both machines are very capable, I was going to go with a PM-25MV initially but decided for the extra bucks more weight and spindle travel would be nice. I do work mostly in steel so top RPM was not a limiting factor. in the future I would like to change over to a three phase motor/ VFD to increase the speed range a bit.

Regular readers know I recently adopted a PM-25MV vertical mill from Precision Matthews. It has proven to be an excellent machine, and I recommend it highly to anyone. I ordered it with the DRO and power feed options, because I knew those would be extremely high return on investment for a mill (and I was right about that- worth every penny).
I like to get a bench top mill this coming spring and contemplating between the Grizzly G 0704 mill or the Precision Matthews PM-25MV mill. I would appreciate any positive or negative thoughts about these two mills by the members of this great Forum.
Arizona CNC currently offers kits for Precision Matthews PM-25MV, PM-30MV and PM-940 CNC mills. Note that Procut CNC also sells converted, ready-to-use PM-25MV (~$4795), PM-30MV (~$5195), and Grizzly G0704 benchtop CNC mills but if you can afford it, I recommend you choose the PM-728VT CNC mill.

Jul 26, 2018. #2. Precision Matthews [brand], is one of the products of an (unknown to me) manufactury in China. Their products are made to specifications from the customer, PM. Not just paint and name, but tolerances and other items. For instance, lead screws are in inches rather than metric, ditto dials. Quality is specified, not guessed at.

I found this forum and PM mills while doing research on the Grizzly G0759 mill. While I don't have the experience to know better, I see plenty of threads discussing the upgrade to the belt drive system in the PM-25MV vs the plastic gears in the G0759. Ok. Sold. But then I discovered the PM-727M.
I am happy with the Precision Mathews PM-25 MV mill that I purchased in February 2016. I especially like the super quiet belt drive. I don't mean to provide a free advertisement for Quality Machine Tools, but, after lots of searching and reading reviews on similar import mills, I can say that I'm happy with my choice.
